When the Universe Says Pause, You Do
Wait, the universe whispers, The one word, one breath Louder than the cacaphony Of the long-held demons Pacing inside my skull I'm trying, I stutter, Whorls of thought on replay Bright beginnings dashed Against the rocks of requirement Rending hope into ash again Wait, the universe repeats, Words like a mother's arm Protecting me from a world That refuses to see me A reminder that she does. I'm trying, I whimper Rivulets hot and heavy The race o'er cheeks to chin Shadows of my face On mirrored shards at my feet Wait, the 'Verse whispers Patient against my surety That nothing good can come My heart a timpani within Ribs tight against beating wing Wait, the word a refrain You deserve every single gift Carving a pathway to you All you have to do...
