Positives | Negatives | No More Applications | Free Audiobooks
I know I’ve talked before about my job situation, and while I don’t have to work, I don’t like having to ask for money. I don’t like having to pass my expenses by Peter first, when he said I could use his credit card. Not because he’d say no, but moreso that I don’t like having to justify the why of my wants and needs, you know.
So I have been applying for jobs through Indeed and LinkedIn.
Positives
I get significantly more responses, even though 99% of those responses have been rejections.
Negative
All the emails are one of three things:
We Like You But…
I know, logically, that there is always someone better than I am, especially since I’m trying to establish myself in the freelance writing/editing field. But while my angry inner teenager is all, er, angry over being what she perceives as the connundrum of being overqualified but wanting to work, my inner child is devastated that my skills are impressive yet they don’t want me.
*sigh*
Scammy, Spammy Stupidity
Let’s break down all the reasons this is spammy:
They emailed me around midnight on a Sunday for an interview at 9am on Monday (#5).
I can’t get an on-site jobs in data entry or typing for $24.95. Also, what in the world is $24.95 anyway?
Signal Messenger? Why wouldn’t you use Zoom or Google Duo? When I looked it up, nothing good came from its use.
Why am I contacting someone to schedule an interview when you’ve already scheduled me for an interview?
Why is there an open bracket and a closing parenthetical?
What kind of signature block is this? Every legit email has a signature block with company links.
Pay Us to Work for Us
IAPWE is technically free, but if you want access to more jobs, better jobs, you have to pay for a premium membership. Also, you are competing for work with every other freelance writer out there.
I do that on Verblio, but I don’t pay to be there to access work.
No More Applications… for Now
So, I told Peter I’m not going to apply for any more jobs until at least July. That’ll be after my recovery from my hysterectomy, so maybe I’ll be able to better handle this shit.
Until then, I’m going to focus on my art and maybe actually get book 4 finished. Don’t forget I have other newsletters, too:
FREE Audiobooks!
Speaking of my books, anyone want a FREE copy of all three of my audiobooks? You’ll have to have an Audible account, but I have three copies. All I ask is that you leave reviews for me on Amazon and/or Audible.
If you’re not aware, my books are fast-paced paranormal thrillers with a snarky female main character who talks to the dead and helps the police to solve unusual crimes. Just let me know.
Thanks for listening.
Much love,
C
Job hunting is the worst. The scams on Indeed have really gotten out of hand. What do these people hope to accomplish, anyway? Sigh...
I think waiting until July sounds perfect! Don't stress about it when you don't "have" to!
