If I’m honest, I’m struggling right now with my personal gremlins. Most of it is feeling useless—despite logically knowing I am medically unable to do what I used to do—and feeling like a burden—despite again logically knowing that we are fine financially and my friends don’t think I’m a burden—and I’ve been trying to reach out more, talk myself down, etc.
So when my friend, M, sent this to me today, it reminded me of a mental exercise that I have used in the past to help me untangle things when I get lost in those brain gremlin thoughts.
The whole talk is worth listening to, but this part specifically I’m sharing because it gives you actions you can put into your life now to help with intrusive thoughts.
So remember:
Say this outloud
5 things I see
4 things I hear
3 things I smell
2 things I taste
1 thing I feel
“You can stand down. I got this.”
It takes practice. But you’ve got this.
I’ve got this.
Thank you, M, for this.
Until later,
Connie
That technique really helps me when I am feeling anxious. Glad it helps you!
